Stash Minimum Investment (2026): What It Takes to Open an Account

Guides › Financial Advisor Fees

Updated September 28, 2026. Quick answer: $5 for a Discretionary Managed Account. Stash’s own Form ADV Part 2A brochure states this figure directly, and the brochure does not offer a general waiver for it. At that minimum, Stash’s own published fee schedule works out to $144 a year.

The minimum, in the firm’s own words

“Stash does not require any minimum deposit to open a taxable brokerage account, Custodial account (UTMA/UGMA), Roth IRA, Traditional IRA, or Discretionary Managed Account. The minimum balance to maintain a taxable brokerage account, Custodial account (UTMA/UGMA), Roth IRA, or Traditional IRA in the Program is $.01. The minimum balance to maintain a Discretionary Managed Account is $5.”

What else to know

Stash requires no deposit at all to open a Discretionary Managed Account; the $5 figure is the minimum balance to keep the account open once it’s opened, not an opening minimum. A separate $1,000 threshold determines when Stash’s asset-based fee begins to apply, rather than acting as an account-size minimum.

What a larger account would cost

The minimum is only the entry point. On a $500,000 account, Stash’s own published fee schedule runs $144 a year; see the full dollar breakdown from Stash’s own fee disclosure across several account sizes. Read our full review of Stash before you decide.

Methodology. This page was built September 28, 2026, quoting directly from Stash’s own current Form ADV Part 2A / wrap-fee brochure, with the source linked above. The annual-fee-at-the-minimum figure applies that same brochure’s own published fee schedule to the disclosed minimum dollar amount; any distinction we could not independently confirm this session is named as an honest gap rather than presented as verified.
