Guides › Financial Advisor Fees

Updated September 28, 2026. Quick answer: GenTrust is registered with the SEC as an investment adviser (CRD #158369, confirmed ACTIVE this session via SEC IAPD). Per its own current fee brochure, a $500,000 account would run up to $7,500 a year (the published maximum) under its published fee schedule. Already a client and thinking about leaving? Budget $0 to $150, depending on your custodian. This review covers what its fee brochure and current SEC registration confirm today; this firm also has a fiduciary-status page and minimum-investment page on this site.

What GenTrust’s own fee schedule charges

CRD 158369 independently re-verified ACTIVE/isSECRegistered=Y, SEC-approved since 10/5/2011, Miami HQ. GenTrust managed $5,202,073,997 in total assets as of December 31, 2025. The brochure states a general $10,000,000 account minimum, waivable at GenTrust’s discretion; the fee itself is a single individually-negotiated rate capped at 1.50% with no separate schedule tied to account size, so it is used as stated for all four benchmark balances.

“GenTrust’s investment advisory fee is agreed upon individually with each client, Financial Intermediaries and Financial Intermediary Clients. In general, GenTrust’s annual base fee (“base fee”) is prorated and charged quarterly in advance, based on the market value of the assets (including cash balances) managed by GenTrust on the last day of the previous quarter. Account values are determined by the client’s custodian or other independent third-party sources. The annual base fee varies (up to 1.50%) depending upon the market value of the assets under management and the type of investment management services to be rendered.”

GenTrust’s fee is a single negotiated rate capped at 1.50% of assets under management, so each benchmark balance is multiplied by 1.50%; the brochure states no minimum dollar fee or breakpoint discount for this fee.

$250,000$3,750

Registration

GenTrust, LLC is registered with the SEC as an investment adviser (CRD #158369, confirmed ACTIVE this session via SEC IAPD).

This is a registration confirmation only, not a fiduciary-standard verdict (a registered investment adviser can still be a dual registrant with a broker-dealer, which changes which standard applies in each capacity). For the fiduciary-standard question itself, see the fiduciary-status page for GenTrust.

What it costs to leave

GenTrust, LLC’s Form ADV Part 2A states “An Agreement between GenTrust and a client will remain in effect until terminated by either party under its terms.” GenTrust, LLC names seven possible custodians in its brochure, with no single default. Charles Schwab & Co., Inc.’s own published fee schedule states “Full transfer (out) of assets: $50 per account.” Pershing Advisor Solutions’s own published fee schedule states “Account Termination $150.00 per account.” J.P. Morgan Wealth Management’s own published fee schedule states “Non-Retirement Account Transfer and Termination $95, Applies when all assets are transferred out of the account” Northern Trust Securities, Inc.’s own published fee schedule states “Outgoing Account Transfer $75” Interactive Brokers LLC’s own published fee schedule states “While IBKR does not charge for incoming or outgoing ACATS transfers, customers should consult with their sending or receiving firm to determine if there will be applicable fees for the transfers.” Fidelity Brokerage Services LLC and Citibank N.A. disclose no comparable line item (an honest gap).

A dedicated how-to-leave page for GenTrust covers the exit costs in full; the general mechanics of switching financial advisors and a dated termination letter apply regardless of firm.

Methodology. This page was built September 28, 2026, drawing directly on GenTrust’s own current fee brochure, linked above, and a fresh SEC IAPD registration check run the same day. As of September 28, 2026, this site publishes a fiduciary-status page and a minimum-investment page for GenTrust; where the exit-fee page already exists it is linked above and drawn from that already-sourced page. Any fact we could not independently confirm is named as an honest gap rather than presented as verified. Nothing here is personalized financial, tax, legal, or investment advice, and it is not a substitute for reading GenTrust’s own Form ADV Part 2A and Form CRS. We have not used GenTrust as a client.
