KeyBank Private Wealth Minimum Investment (2026): What It Takes to Open an Account

Guides › Financial Advisor Fees

Updated September 24, 2026. Quick answer: It depends which strategy you pick: KIS Advisory Fee wrap programs runs from $10,000 to $100,000, depending on the specific strategy or model portfolio. At the $10,000 low end, KeyBank Private Wealth’s own fee schedule works out to $140 a year; strategies at the high end require substantially more.

The minimum, in the firm’s own words

“The following are the minimum investment dollars required to open and maintain an account, unless otherwise agreed to in KIS’s sole and absolute discretion (see Item 4 at KIS Program Services)… The minimum overall account size required to participate in the UMA Program is $75,000. The minimum required investment for each Investment Manager model selected within the UMA Program varies, between $10,000-$100,000.”

On waivability: “In KIS’s sole and absolute discretion… account minimums may be waived”

$10,000 low end under the KIS Advisory Fee’s first breakpoint ($0-$1,000,000 at 1.40%): $10,000 x 1.40% = $140.

Account balanceAnnual fee
$250,000$3,500
$500,000$7,000
$1,000,000$14,000
$2,000,000$20,000

What else to know

KeyBank Private Wealth’s own brochure sets a separate minimum for each of its named KIS wrap sub-programs rather than one program-wide figure, ranging from $10,000 (several Key Programs and manager models) to $100,000 (the SMA Program, per the brochure’s own account-requirements table; a separate passage elsewhere in the same document states $50,000 for SMA instead, a genuine internal inconsistency we did not resolve). All are waivable at KIS’s sole and absolute discretion.

What a larger account would cost

The minimum is only the entry point. On a $500,000 account, KeyBank Private Wealth’s own published fee schedule runs $7,000 a year; see the full dollar breakdown from KeyBank Private Wealth’s own fee disclosure across several account sizes.
