Modera Wealth Management Minimum Investment (2026): What It Takes to Open an Account

Guides › Financial Advisor Fees

Updated September 28, 2026. Quick answer: Modera Wealth Management does not publish a minimum dollar amount to open a Modera’s Wealth Management Services account. Instead, it enforces a $12,000-a-year minimum fee, which becomes the real floor for smaller balances once the percentage schedule alone would charge less than that.

The minimum, in the firm’s own words

“While we do not have a minimum account size as a condition for starting and maintaining a wealth management, portfolio management or retirement plan services relationship, we generally impose a minimum quarterly fee as follows: $3,000 per quarter for wealth management services; $2,500 per quarter for portfolio management services; and $2,500 per quarter for retirement plan services.”

On waivability: “Modera may waive all or any portion of the minimum quarterly fee at its sole discretion.”

What else to know

Modera’s minimum quarterly fee varies by service line: $3,000/quarter ($12,000/year) for wealth management services (priced here), versus $2,500/quarter ($10,000/year) for portfolio management or retirement plan services alone.

What a larger account would cost

The minimum is only the entry point. On a $500,000 account, Modera Wealth Management’s own published fee schedule runs $12,000 a year; see the full dollar breakdown from Modera Wealth Management’s own fee disclosure across several account sizes.
