Edelman Financial Engines Minimum Investment (2026): What It Takes to Open an Account

Guides › Financial Advisor Fees

Updated September 18, 2026. Quick answer: Edelman Financial Engines does not publish a fixed minimum for its Wealth Planning program. Its own brochure states any minimum account size for wealth planning clients is determined by models the firm creates, and may be reduced, increased or waived in whole or in part at its discretion.

The minimum, in the firm’s own words

“Wealth planning clients wishing to open an account may be subject to a minimum account size, which is determined based on specific models created by the firm. That minimum account size may be reduced, increased, or waived, in whole or in part, at our discretion. Where a minimum is not met, we make available certain educational tools and guidance at no charge.”

On waivability: “That minimum account size may be reduced, increased, or waived, in whole or in part, at our discretion.”

What else to know

Two other Edelman client categories do carry fixed minimums: legacy Wrap Fee Program clients from a prior employer plan ($5,000 household), and institutional clients ($500,000, on a separate rate schedule). Neither applies to standard Wealth Planning clients.

What a larger account would cost

The minimum is only the entry point. On a $500,000 account, Edelman Financial Engines’ own published fee schedule runs $8,250 a year; see the full dollar breakdown from Edelman Financial Engines’ own fee disclosure across several account sizes.

Methodology. This page was built September 18, 2026, quoting directly from Edelman Financial Engines’ own current Form ADV Part 2A / wrap-fee brochure, with the source linked above. The annual-fee-at-the-minimum figure applies that same brochure’s own published fee schedule to the disclosed minimum dollar amount; any distinction we could not independently confirm this session is named as an honest gap rather than presented as verified.
