Updated July 7, 2026. Quick answer (2026): AUM fees at $1M are about $10,000/year at 1.00%, $7,500/year at 0.75%, and $5,000/year at 0.50% before fund, platform, overlay, trading, tax-prep, or implementation costs. The same quote should be compared against flat annual and hourly/project pricing.
AUM fees at $1M table
| AUM rate | Annual advisor fee | Ask before accepting |

| 1.00% | $10,000/year | Does the quote include planning, investment implementation, and tax coordination? |
| 0.75% | $7,500/year | What fee breakpoints apply above $1M? |
| 0.50% | $5,000/year | Is the planning service lighter, virtual-only, or limited to portfolio management? |
Compare nearby balances: AUM fees at $500k, AUM fees at $2M, AUM fees at $3M, and financial advisor fees for a $1 million portfolio.
At $750,000, a tenth of a percent is $750 a year.
That is the whole argument for getting more than one quote. Take the figures above into the conversation and ask each firm what they would charge on $750,000, all in, and what that buys beyond investment management.

- A $10,000/year AUM quote may be reasonable if it includes deep planning and implementation.
- A flat annual quote may be cheaper if it includes comparable retirement-income, tax, and portfolio work.
- Ask for all-in costs in dollars, including funds, platforms, overlays, tax-prep, and hourly work.
