Medicare Part A Deductible 2027: $1,736 for 2026, Not Yet Announced

Updated September 4, 2026. Quick answer. The Medicare Part A inpatient hospital deductible (what you pay per benefit period before Part A coverage kicks in) is $1,736 for 2026, up $60 from $1,676 in 2025. This is a separate, much larger figure than the Part B annual deductible ($283 for 2026): Part A is triggered per hospital stay, Part B is an annual amount for outpatient and doctor services. Coinsurance for a longer stay: $434 a day for days 61–90, $868 a day for lifetime reserve days, and $217 a day for skilled nursing facility days 21–100. The 2027 Part A deductible is not yet announced; CMS typically publishes it in November alongside Part B.

What’s actually settled, vs. still open

Settled for 2026 (CMS Fact Sheet, “2026 Medicare Parts A & B Premiums and Deductibles,” published November 14, 2025): $1,736 deductible; $434/day coinsurance for hospital days 61–90; $868/day for lifetime reserve days; $217/day for skilled nursing facility days 21–100. The Federal Register’s companion notice shows the actual calculation: $1,676 × 1.0262 (payment-weighted rate increase) × 1.009 (real case-mix growth factor) = $1,735.39, rounded to the nearest $4 to reach $1,736.

Open: the 2027 deductible, governed by §1813(b) of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. §1395e(b)). Unlike most figures on this page’s sibling pages, this one is not wage-indexed and not COLA-tied: it’s set by a CMS actuarial formula built on projected hospital payment-rate trends and case-mix growth, rounded to the nearest $4, so it can’t be estimated from a simple inflation index the way most figures on this site can.

What the year’s figures mean for your own accounts

Knowing the numbers is not the same as knowing what to do about the income you report and the accounts it comes from, and an adviser can work that through with you.

Before you start, what actually happens. The form is run by Kapitalwise, our advisor-matching partner. Kapitalwise sends your details to advisers who pay for the introduction, so expect calls and texts. Clear Money Guide is paid when you submit the form, whether or not you ever hire anyone. This is free to you and there is no obligation to hire anyone.

The Kapitalwise form opens here. You stay on this page.

What happens when you press the button

It asks about nine questions (age, investable assets, location), then your name, email and phone number, and verifies the phone by text. Nothing loads and nothing reaches Kapitalwise until you press the button. Submitting the form does not guarantee an adviser or a match. This matching form is not tax or legal advice. A note on an unverified figure circulating online

One secondary source attributes a $1,788 2027 projection to “the 2026 Medicare Trustees Report,” but that specific dollar figure could not be independently confirmed against the Trustees Report itself when checked directly; the source document discusses cost-trend percentages, not this exact deductible dollar amount. This page does not publish that number as fact. If you see $1,788 quoted as a confirmed 2027 figure elsewhere, treat it as unverified until CMS publishes the actual determination.
