Updated September 4, 2026. Quick answer: California requires a biennial report; Every LLC files during a specific 5-month window in the calendar month of original registration, every two years (odd or even years based on year of initial registration).
If you’d rather not track this yourself
Bizee’s registered-agent and compliance service includes a due-date reminder and a filing option for California’s report. State filing fees are separate.
Bizee’s BBB rating, verified directly against BBB’s own listing on September 2, 2026: a C, not accredited. BBB’s own finding: the business “has failed to resolve underlying cause(s) of a pattern of complaints,” with 83 complaints filed. Most complaints we found described difficulty canceling recurring services and strict refund policies, worth knowing before you hand over a card for the year-two renewal. Check BBB’s current listing yourself before you buy; a rating we didn’t just verify is worse than none.

Whether California requires one, and how often
California requires LLCs to file a biennial report every two years (biennially). $20 Statement of Information.
When it’s due
Every LLC files during a specific 5-month window in the calendar month of original registration, every two years (odd or even years based on year of initial registration).
What it costs
$20 Statement of Information (source, read 2026-08-06).
What happens if you miss it
$250 penalty, assessed by the Franchise Tax Board after a delinquency notice plus an additional 60-day window elapses unfiled.
What eventually happens if it stays unfiled: Two tracks: SOS can suspend for failing to file the Statement of Information; separately FTB can suspend/forfeit LLC powers under Rev. & Tax Code §23301 for unpaid tax/penalty/interest by the last day of the 12th month after the close of the tax year. (Cal. Rev. & Tax. Code §23301)

What this page does not answer
State income tax, franchise tax and federal (IRS) filing obligations are separate from this report and follow their own deadlines and rules. This page does not source those. We have the state periodic-report answer at primary and nothing else.
