Is PNC Investments a Fiduciary? What Its Own Form CRS Says (2026)

Guides › Financial Advisor Fees

Updated September 22, 2026. Quick answer: It depends which hat PNC Investments is wearing. As your investment adviser, PNC Investments owes you a fiduciary duty under the Investment Advisers Act of 1940. As your broker-dealer, PNC Investments owes you Regulation Best Interest, a real and enforceable standard, but not a fiduciary duty. PNC Investments’ own Form CRS states: “When we provide you with a recommendation as your broker-dealer or act as your investment adviser, we have to act in your best interest and not put our interest ahead of yours.”

How it’s registered

From PNC Wealth Management LLC Client Relationship Summary (Form CRS) (Effective October 17, 2025): “PNC Wealth Management LLC, which does business as PNC Investments, is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”) as both a broker-dealer and an investment adviser.”

SEC IAPD confirms CRD 129052 carries an active broker-dealer registration (bd_sec_number 66195) alongside an active IA registration. otherNames on this CRD include “PNC Investments” and “PNC Investments LLC”, confirming this is the correct registered entity for the branded product. The firm’s own CRS states plainly: “PNC Wealth Management LLC … is registered with the SEC as an investment adviser and broker-dealer.”

The standard of conduct, in its own words

“When we provide you with a recommendation as your broker-dealer or act as your investment adviser, we have to act in your best interest and not put our interest ahead of yours.”

On commissions: “When we act as your broker, unless you trade online, you will pay us for each individual transaction executed on your behalf in your account; note that this payment will be charged even where the trade is not recommended by us.”

What this means for what you pay

Fiduciary status is one input, not the whole picture. PNC Investments discloses a published fee that runs $9,375 a year on a $500,000 account; see the full dollar breakdown from PNC Investments’ own fee disclosure before deciding whether the standard of conduct here changes your answer.
