Is Interactive Advisors a Fiduciary? What Its Own Form CRS Says (2026)

Guides › Financial Advisor Fees

Updated September 28, 2026. Quick answer: Yes, on every account. Interactive Advisors is registered with the SEC only as an investment adviser (it is not a broker-dealer), so the Investment Advisers Act of 1940 requires it to act as your fiduciary. Its own Form CRS states: “When we act as your investment adviser, we have to act in your best interest and not put our interest ahead of yours.”

How it’s registered

From Interactive Advisors (Covestor Limited) Form CRS, Customer Relationship Summary (March 1, 2024): “Covestor Limited (“Covestor Ltd” or “Covestor”) doing business as (“dba”) Interactive Advisors (“IA” or “We”), is an investment adviser registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”).”

The standard of conduct, in its own words

“When we act as your investment adviser, we have to act in your best interest and not put our interest ahead of yours.”

On commissions: “We are compensated by salary and merit-based discretionary bonuses that are calculated based on many factors, including company and individual performance. We are not directly compensated based on client commissions or fees earned, performance of our client accounts, the amount of client assets, the products clients invest in, or revenue earned for any advisory services chosen by the clients.”

What this means for what you pay

Fiduciary status is one input, not the whole picture. Interactive Advisors discloses a published fee that runs $1,000 a year on a $500,000 account; see the full dollar breakdown from Interactive Advisors’ own fee disclosure before deciding whether the standard of conduct here changes your answer.
