Updated September 24, 2026. Quick answer: A revocable living trust drawn up by a Louisiana attorney runs a median $2,750, $2,300–$3,200 for the middle half of the 909 firms LegalTemplates surveyed in 2026. That puts Louisiana at the 17th-cheapest of the 21 states compared here, coming in over the $2,475 national median for a standalone trust. A DIY platform runs $149 to $649. What that spend buys locally: Jefferson Parish charges a $200.00 advance deposit to open a small succession under $125,000, and $400.00 for larger successions.
Whether the state taxes the trust’s income is a separate question: does Louisiana tax trust income.

What a living trust avoids: probate in Louisiana
Louisiana’s probate system is what a funded trust bypasses entirely; here is what that system actually charges. Jefferson Parish charges a $200.00 advance deposit to open a small succession under $125,000, and $400.00 for larger successions. Full filing-fee breakdown.
Louisiana fixes one half of the bill by statute and leaves the other to the court: the executor or administrator takes a default statutory commission of 2.5% of the gross inventory value of the succession (La. C.C.P. art. 3351) absent a testament provision or agreement, while attorney fees are reasonable with no schedule. The second number is the small-estate threshold, at or under which an estate skips most of probate: $200,000 of gross property at death where the decedent died domiciled in Louisiana, as a small succession ($125,000 where a non-domiciliary left Louisiana property). Whether any of that reaches a solely owned house is answered below; it is where most published guidance goes wrong. Full Louisiana probate cost guide, including how small an estate has to be to sidestep probate on its own.
Funding the trust in Louisiana
The trust protects only what is actually inside it, which for real estate means a recorded deed change, not just the trust paperwork. Louisiana takes transfer taxes off the table entirely: La. Const. art. VII, §2.3 bars the state and every parish from levying any new tax or fee on the sale or transfer of immovable property, so deeding your home into your own revocable trust adds no transfer tax. Property assessment runs on a calendar, not a sale trigger: art. VII, §18(F)(1) requires all property to be reappraised at intervals of no more than four years, regardless of who holds title. The deed still must be recorded with the parish clerk of court; Jefferson Parish charges $105 for a short conveyance document plus a small statewide indexing fee.
