Why Mississippi has no estate tax

What applies to a Mississippi estate instead

What the documents do not say

  • The Department’s page is the only Mississippi document read; no statute or legislative source was archived.

Common mistakes

  • Expecting a Mississippi gift tax or inheritance tax filing alongside the federal return; the Department says the state has neither.
  • Assuming the state answer settles the federal one, or the answer for property held in another state.
