Capital Loss Harvest Helper — Offset, $3k Deduction & Carryforward

Estimate the value of harvesting losses this year. We net short-term and long-term per IRS rules, apply the $3,000 ($1,500 MFS) ordinary deduction when eligible, and show tax savings vs. baseline — plus the carryforward to next year.

Harvesting is easy. Not repurchasing into a wash sale is the part people get wrong.

The ordinary deduction the tool applies is capped at $3,000 a year, or $1,500 if you file married filing separately, and everything above that becomes a carryforward rather than a refund this year. The netting above is only worth what survives the wash-sale rule across every account you hold, including a spouse’s. The advisers below pay to be introduced to people managing taxable portfolios. It is free to you, and it is not the only way to find an adviser.

Before you start, what actually happens. The form is run by Kapitalwise, our advisor-matching partner. Kapitalwise sends your details to advisers who pay for the introduction, so expect calls and texts. Clear Money Guide is paid when you submit the form, whether or not you ever hire anyone. This is free to you and there is no obligation to hire anyone.

The Kapitalwise form opens here — you stay on this page.

What happens when you press the button

It asks about nine questions — age, investable assets, location — then your name, email and phone number, and verifies the phone by text. Nothing loads and nothing reaches Kapitalwise until you press the button.

If you still have 0% LTCG room, harvest gains first; otherwise consider timing losses. Coordinate with Capital Gains Harvest Window and the broader plan in Retirement Tax Windows.
