Method (today’s dollars using real return)
We convert your nominal return and inflation to a real return: real ≈ ((1+return)/(1+inflation))−1. Then we simulate monthly growth with constant monthly savings until the real balance meets your goal (dollar target or FI multiple × spending). CSV shows end-of-year real and nominal balances and total contributions.

Next: tune contributions in your 401(k) Contribution Strategy and set a safe withdrawal plan with Withdrawal Guardrails.

Figures verified on September 30, 2026: this page states no IRS, SSA or other official figures, and the pre-filled inputs are illustrative defaults, not official numbers. The real-return conversion shown in the method note was checked against the calculator’s own formula.

That is the timeline at your current rate. Every input in it is negotiable except time.

Rate, return and horizon trade against each other, and the honest version of this conversation involves someone challenging your assumptions. The advisers below pay for the introduction. It is free to you, and it is not the only way to find an adviser.

Before you start, what actually happens. The form is run by Kapitalwise, our advisor-matching partner. Kapitalwise sends your details to advisers who pay for the introduction, so expect calls and texts. Clear Money Guide may earn a referral payment through this service, whether or not you ever hire anyone. This is free to you and there is no obligation to hire anyone.

The Kapitalwise form opens here — you stay on this page.

What happens when you press the button

It asks about nine questions — age, investable assets, location — then your name, email and phone number, and verifies the phone by text. Nothing loads and nothing reaches Kapitalwise until you press the button.
