Updated September 7, 2026. Quick answer: Wyoming charges $110.00 to file for probate, plus a $40.00 court automation fee and a $10.00 indigent legal services fee, for $160.00 at filing. Once an inventory or appraisement showing an estate of $5,000 or more is filed, additional fees based on value apply: $5.00 for a value of $5,000 to $10,000, and $5.00 for each additional $10,000 of value or portion thereof.
If a trust could save your estate this fee in Wyoming
A living trust avoids probate entirely in Wyoming, which means the estate skips the $110.00 above along with every other cost the court charges once a case is open. LawDepot builds a state-specific one.

What Wyoming charges to open probate
The $110.00 original filing fee does not depend on the size of the estate, but once an inventory or appraisement showing an estate of $5,000 or more is filed, additional fees based on value are collected.
| Original filing fee | $110.00 |
| Court automation fee | $40.00 |
| Indigent civil legal services fee | $10.00 |
| Total at filing, before value-based inventory fees | $160.00 |
| Additional fee once an inventory showing $5,000 or more is filed | $5.00 for a value of $5,000 to $10,000, plus $5.00 for each additional $10,000 of value or portion thereof |
Where this money goes and who sets it
The authority for this figure is Wyo. Stat. § 2-2-401(a). In the source’s own words: “Original filing fee $110.00 … a court automation fee in the amount of forty dollars ($40.00)… an indigent civil legal services fee in the amount of ten dollars ($10.00)” The same section adds that when an inventory or appraisement is filed showing an estate valued at $5,000 or more, additional fees based on value are collected: $5.00 for a value of $5,000 to $10,000, and $5.00 for each additional $10,000 of value or portion thereof.
What this fee doesn’t cover
Because Wyoming adds a value-based fee once an inventory is filed, the total rises as the estate grows. Either way, this is the court’s own charge just to open the file and issue letters, separate from what an attorney charges to actually handle the estate and separate from any state estate or inheritance tax the estate itself might owe.
