Updated September 29, 2026. Quick answer. The 2026 traditional/Roth IRA contribution limit is $7,500, up from $7,000 in 2025, with an age-50-and-older catch-up of $1,100, the first year that catch-up has ever increased, since SECURE 2.0 began indexing it in 2025. Combined, someone 50 or older can put in $8,600 for 2026. The 2027 figure is not announced, and it is worth being precise about why you won’t find a credible projection anywhere: Milliman’s own 2027 IRS limits forecast (the report CMG’s 401(k) page cites for that figure) explicitly does not cover the IRA limit. Neither Bloomberg Tax nor Thomson Reuters Checkpoint has published one either. Numbers circulating online for a “2027 IRA limit” trace back to calculator sites doing their own math, not a named forecaster’s work.

What is the IRA contribution limit for 2027?
The 2027 figure is not announced. For 2026 the traditional and Roth IRA limit is $7,500, with a $1,100 catch-up at age 50 and older. Milliman, Bloomberg Tax and Thomson Reuters Checkpoint have not published a 2027 IRA projection.
What’s actually settled, vs. still open
Settled for 2026: $7,500 standard limit, $1,100 catch-up (age 50+), per IRS Notice 2025-67, announced November 13, 2025.
Open: the 2027 figures for both the standard limit and the catch-up. The IRA limit is governed by 26 U.S.C. §219(b)(5), indexed in $500 increments, the same step as the 401(k) deferral limit but a larger share of a much smaller number, which is part of why it moves less often (it held flat at $7,000 for two straight years, 2024 into 2025, before this year’s jump). The IRS typically announces the following year’s IRA limit around November 1 alongside the 401(k)/403(b)/457 figures.

How our partner relationships workWhy no forecaster has a 2027 number yet
Milliman reissues a 2027 IRS limits forecast monthly, and CMG’s own 401(k) limit page cites its 401(k) deferral projection directly. That report is scoped to qualified-plan limits under 26 U.S.C. §415 (401(k)/403(b)/457 deferrals, the two catch-up tiers, the defined-contribution annual-addition cap, and the compensation cap) and does not include a §219 IRA line item, confirmed by reading the report directly. Bloomberg Tax’s and Thomson Reuters Checkpoint’s annual projection reports were searched specifically for an IRA figure and returned none. Until one of those named firms publishes a number, this page states none, rather than adopting an unattributed calculator site’s math as if it were a forecast.
